Transparency in Coverage

In November 2020, the final “Transparency in Coverage” regulations (TiC Rules) were released. Which require health insurers and group health plans (both insured and self-insured) to provide cost-sharing data to consumers.

THE TiC RULES

Under the final TiC Rules, health insurers and group health plans (but not TPAs) must provide extensive cost-sharing data to consumers. The TiC Rules requires a plan or insurer to make available on a public internet website the required MRFs ‘‘machine-readable file’’ , and access to the files must be free of charge, without having to establish a user account, password, or other credentials, and without having to submit any personal identifying information such as a name, email address, or telephone number.
